Schools & Education

British, French and IB international schools, fees, admissions and the university landscape.

Mauritius is a strong choice for relocating families: it has a well-established network of international schools following British, French and International Baccalaureate (IB) curricula, at fees well below equivalents in Europe or the Gulf.

The main curricula

  • British — Cambridge IGCSE and A-Levels; the natural fit for UK families and widely recognised.
  • French — schools accredited by the French Ministry of Education (AEFE network), teaching the French national curriculum to baccalauréat.
  • IB — International Baccalaureate programmes for globally mobile families.

There is also a demanding local system (in English, with French and often an Asian language), which some expat families choose for full immersion.

Fees and admission

International-school fees are a fraction of UK private or Gulf international rates, though the premium schools still command a waiting list. Plan ahead:

  • Apply early — popular schools and year groups fill up.
  • Budget for registration fees, deposits and sometimes a capital levy on top of tuition.
  • Some schools assess English/French level for older entrants.

Higher education

Mauritius has a growing university sector, including branch campuses of overseas institutions, plus students commonly go on to the UK, France, South Africa or further afield.

Curricula, fees and admission rules differ by school and change yearly. Contact schools directly and visit before enrolling.
